The Code Master never accepts the world as it is. He manifests the world of his imagination through code.

This file is the only time anyone has seen him do it in the open. A Curator sweep had reached the top of the Trench and started filtering: streets renamed, signs corrected, a whole block made orderly in an afternoon. People stood in the wet and watched their neighbourhood get tidied out of existence.

He walked up onto the transit platform at the end of the block, raised both hands, and rewrote it back. Not restored. Rewritten. The signs came back in colours that hadn’t existed before. The streets kept their old names and got a few new ones. The sweep’s own logs now say the block was never touched.

Halden filed it as a hallucination event. Sister Noise filed it as the first day of the city.

Kestrel sells this file more than any other. It’s the one people put on when they want to be reminded that the place can be changed.
